Hormonal control of myo-inositol incorporation into pectin.

چکیده

The rate of incorporation of glucose into the galacturonic acid residues of pectin has been shown to be modified by the auxin, indoleacetic acid (1). In recent experiments, Loewus, Kelly, and Neufeld (2, 3) have shown that myo-inositol is also a good precursor of the uranic acid of pectin. These workers suggest that myo-inositol is oxidatively cleaved to form glucuronic acid. The latter might be transformed into uriclme diphosphate galacturonic acid, which, by analogy to the synthesis of other polysaccharides, is a logical precursor of pectin (4). Evidence delineating the actual biosynthetic pathway of pectin is yet to be obtained. The experiments described in this communication were designed to compare the rate of myo-inositol incorporation into the galacturonic acid residues of pectin with a similar rate previously determined for glucose. We have also investigated the ability of indoleacetic acid to control this incorporation. Our purpose was to determine whether glucose and myo-inositol have a common precursor during their transformation to the galacturonide of pectin, and if so, whether the plant hormone controls the synthesis of pectin prior to or following the formation of this compound.

Effect of a myo-Inositol Antagonist, 2-O, C-Methylene-myo-Inositol, on the Metabolism of myo-Inositol-2-H and d-Glucose-1-C in Lilium longiflorum Pollen.

2-O,C-Methylene-myo-inositol (MMO), a myo-inositol (MI) antagonist, inhibits germination and tube elongation of pollen from Lilium longiflorum cv. Ace or 44. The presence of 5 mm MMO in Dickinson's pentaerythritol medium (Plant Physiol. 43:1-8) partially blocks germination. The tubes produced are short and fail to elongate. In the presence of MI, MMO's toxic effect is blocked. As little as 0.56...

myo-Inositol uptake and metabolism in isolated rat liver cells.

The uptake of myo-inositol into isolated rat liver parenchymal cells and its incorporation into phosphatidylinositol were studied by isotopic and chemical means. The uptake was concentrationand time-dependent, but a maximal rate could not be defined. The intracellular concentration of myo-inositol never exceeded the extracellular concentration, and the uptake was not affected by inhibitors of m...

A review on the role of inositol in aquaculture

Inositol is usually classified as an essential vitamin for most animals, and is recognised as a part of the B-complex vitamins. Among all other inositol isomer forms, myo-inositol possesses biological activity. It is found in the brain, skeletal, heart, and main reproductive tissues and exists as a structural component of phosphatidylinositol in biological cell membranes. Myo-inositol, also act...
